Cement Menagerie

These are a few of the photos I took at the amazing Cement menagerie in Branxton Northumberland. It is the project of a man called John Fairnington who,in 1962 at the age of 80, began building hundreds of these incredible people and animals in his back garden for his disabled son, stopping only when his son died in 1971. Now I don't meant to be soppy but it is one of the most charming and life affirming things I have ever seen. It'll definitely keep me going in happiness for a good 6 months. Now run by John's great niece its still lovingly maintained, open every single day and free of charge. So basically if you're anywhere even vaguely North then you better go here!!great.
