New Textiles

In a rather unorthodox bit of styling, or 'piling' heres a wee taster of some new bits. There's loads more, but its at the seamstress (the incredible Alison Lewis as you ask). I will be selling all my new wares at 'Of Cabbages and Kings' in Stoke Newington on 14 and 15 August. And I'll put some stuff up on my much neglected Etsy shop after.

Fine Cell Work quilt

I have just finished printing pieces for two quilts that I designed as a commission for
Fine Cell Work. They are a charity that works to teach embroidery, quilting and sewing skills to inmates across Britain. Their work is used to make some wonderful products, mainly for interiors, which the prisoners are able to earn money from. Read more about them on their website

I hand printed and dyed the pieces and handed them over to a man called Tony to piece together and hand embroider. I'm pretty excited to see the results. They will be showcased at a fundraising event and sale at the Victoria and Albert Museum. The reception is to tie in with the V&A's exhibition of British quilts which includes a quilt made by prisoners for Fine Cell Work.

Great News! Fabric by the metre!

I now have some fabrics available by the metre from Nicholas Herbert on Lot's road. It's a charming little shop just by the entrance of Chelsea Harbour, full of unusual fabrics (featuring rabbits seaweed and lions) amongst some good old classics, most of which are taken from 18th Century documents.

The images originate from woodblock designs and are printed in the UK on a beautiful scoured cream cotton. There are two designs 'Lurcher' and 'Grouse'

It took us nearly a year of experimenting to get it right but its paid off- they are printed beautifully-the fabric is soft and the ink does not sit on the surface.

To request a sample email enquiries@nicholasherbert.com.

Two other designs 'Songbirds' and 'Mongrels' are in the pipeline..
